UK passport photo checker
Check the file you already have, then review the portrait itself. Choose your application route first: an online upload and a printed passport photo are different tasks.

Dimensions and file size
We’ll measure pixels and bytes, without resizing your file.
File checks do not measure face geometry, lighting or editing history. The passport office makes the acceptance decision.
Now review the photograph
These checks need your eyes. Review each item against the original before applying.

Need a new original?Independent checks before you apply
This is a file pre-check and a guided visual review, not the official passport application checker. GOV.UK and HM Passport Office decide acceptance. A successful file check does not assess face geometry or prove that the photo is recent or unedited.
Why isn’t a digital upload cropped to 35×45 mm?
That describes the print format. For an own-device digital application, keep the original capture and let the application handle its crop. The checker reads your image without changing it.
Can this create a photo code?
No. A photo code from a participating booth or shop is a different delivery service from a downloadable file. Read the application instructions for your chosen route.
