UK driving licence photo checker
Pick how you’re renewing first. Online you can often reuse your passport photo; a new upload and a printed D1 photo are checked differently.

Dimensions and file size
We’ll measure pixels and bytes against the UK passport standard, without resizing your file.
File checks do not measure face geometry, lighting or editing history. DVLA makes the acceptance decision.
Now review the photograph
These checks need your eyes. Review each item against the original before applying.

Create a driving licence photoIndependent checks before you apply
This is a file pre-check and a guided visual review, not an official DVLA checker. DVLA decides acceptance. A successful file check does not assess face geometry or prove that the photo is recent or unedited.
Do I need a new photo to renew my driving licence?
Not if you renew online with a UK passport: GOV.UK says you can use your passport photo or upload a new one. By post, you send a recent printed passport-type photo.
What does the file check measure?
DVLA publishes no pixel limits, so the checker compares your file with the UK passport digital minimum of 600 × 750 pixels. That is the strictest UK photo standard. For a print, it checks 35×45 mm proportions.
