Which Applications Require a 2×2 Inch Photo?
Some applications ask for a 2×2 inch square photo, including US passport paper applications. Others use different dimensions or digital rules. Confirm the specific form and submission route before cropping.
- • Paper passport applications: 2×2-inch print
- • Some visa applications: square digital JPEG
- • Check the form-specific digital file limit
- • Passport upload: 630×810 px, maximum 250 KB
- • OCI: square, 200–900 px, maximum 200 KB; this tool does not enforce that limit. Use the India studio preset.
- • Many European applications use 35×45 mm
- • A square crop will be wrong for those forms
- • Use the relevant country guide instead
Choose the right download
The single-photo button exports a 600×600 or 1200×1200-pixel JPEG. The print-sheet button exports two crops on an 1800×1200-pixel canvas intended for a 4×6-inch print at 300 pixels per inch. Print it at actual 4×6 size without automatic resizing.
For a US visa digital upload, the Department of State specifies a square JPEG between 600×600 and 1200×1200 pixels and no larger than 240 KB. This tool does not enforce the 240 KB limit, so check the downloaded file. For a US passport, the Department of State says to submit an original, unchanged photo; a crop cannot make an altered or unsuitable photo acceptable.

Can I convert a photo taken with my iPhone or Android into a 2×2 photo?
Yes. The tool exports a 600×600 or 1200×1200-pixel square JPEG. It does not write or verify print DPI, check facial measurements, or fix a blurry or poorly lit original.
Is 2×2 inches exactly equal to 50×50 mm or 51×51 mm?
2.0 inches is mathematically 50.8 millimeters. US passport print instructions describe this as 51×51 mm. India has separate routes: overseas passport uploads use 630×810 pixels, while OCI uploads are square. Check the application instructions before choosing a crop. Do not use a square crop for a form requiring 35×45 mm.
